Homemade Pizzas
Servings: 4 pizzas | Prep & Cook: 1 hour (includes rising)
Ingredients — Dough (see How to Activate Yeast)
- 4 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 cups warm water
- 6 Tbsp avocado oil
- 4 tsp salt
- 5-5½ cups all-purpose flour
Toppings (your choice)
- Pizza sauce
- 16 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
- Pepperoni or other toppings
Directions — Dough
- In a large bowl, combine yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let stand for 3-4 minutes until yeast foams.
- Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir in most of the flour (reserve about ½ cup), until dough begins to come together.
- If too wet, add remaining flour gradually, kneading between additions until dough forms a ball but still feels slightly sticky. If too dry, add a splash of water or olive oil. Knead for 3-5 minutes.
- Cover dough with a tea towel and let rest for at least 10 minutes (up to an hour for more flavor development).
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 2 balls.
- Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Shape dough into desired pizza size.
- Par-bake the crusts (without any toppings) for 5-7 minutes, until just beginning to firm up but not yet browned.
- Remove from oven and add your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and crust is golden brown.
Prep Tips
- Make pizza dough 1-2 days in advance. Double the recipe and freeze some for next time
- Let everyone build their own pizza for a fun family dinner
- Leftover toppings can be used for lunch the next day
